Diana, Princess of Wales

This exhibition combines iconographic images taken by the world renowned photographer, Mario Testino in 1997 and a display of nine evening dresses worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
Mario Testino’s images taken for Vanity Fair magazine turned out to be the last official portrait photographs of Diana, Princess of Wales. The images accompanied an article published to coincide with the famous auction of 79 of the Princess dresses for charity in New York in July 1997.
Nine of the gowns sold at the auction, including dresses worn for the photo-shoot, are united with Mario Testino’s photographs for the first time in this unique exhibition.
Among them are four evening dresses by Catherine Walker from the early 1990s including a black halterneck dress with beautiful embroidery in black bugle beads, worn at the Palace of Versailles in 1994. For a limited period (until May 2006) visitors will also be able to see a stunning one-sleeved dress by the Japanese designer Hachi worn by the Princess for the first time in Australia in 1985.
These will be joined with further dresses by Catherine Walker and Bruce Oldfield and the famous dark blue velvet dress by Victor Edelstein, worn to dinner at the White House in 1985 when the Princess delighted guests by taking to the dance floor with John Travolta.

The palace is situated in Kensington Gardens, on the edge of Hyde Park.
Entrance to the palace can be made via Bayswater Road or Kensington High Street.
